We are also eager to participate and visit organisations related to classic cars in Asia.
The maharanas’ car collection makes a fascinating diversion, for what it tells about their elite lifestyle and for the vintage vehicles themselves. Housed within the former state garage are splendid vehicles, including a seven-seat 1938 Cadillac complete with purdah system, the beautiful 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom used in the Bond film Octopussy, and the Cadillac convertible that whisked Queen Elizabeth II to the airport in 1961. The museum is a 10-minute walk east along Lake Palace Rd.
The collection is housed in the original Palace Garage, a glorious setting for such a unique and remarkable collection of golden oldies. The semi-circular garage with its forecourt is housed within a greater courtyard, creating a pleasant hideaway from the bustle of the streets. One of the original Burmah Shell petrol pumps is not only still standing, but also in a usable condition. The garage itself was built at a time when the only cars in town belonged to the Royal Family and the present-day surroundings make this garage as wonderfully stylish as it must always have been.

Automotive exhibits, workshops, talks and activities will tell the captivating provenance of these exceptional vehicles, as well as the personal backgrounds of some of the passionate collectors fortunate enough to own them. Sunday’s Best of the Show acknowledges some of the festival’s truly standout highlights.
The popular vintage hair and beauty salons are back (as are the much-coveted style awards!), while kids can get into the swing of things with their own dedicated area complete with old-fashioned games, arts and crafts and peddle cars. Add to that a vintage market, a mouth-watering array of food and beverage options and live music all day and deep into the night and the Hong Kong Classic is not to be missed.
